The burning has been continuing for more than 600 years. The scenery of the spacious tableland shrouded in flame and smoke is astonishing. Local staff and volunteers set fires every year.
The purpose of this burning is to get rid of weeds and help new buds growing up so that the grassland can be kept in good condition. Visitors can watch the burning from the observatory.
