Culture SHIMANE

When we face the direction of Mt.Shiroyama in Tsuwano Town , a path lined with  1,000 vermilion torii (Shinto gate) can be seen. That is an entrance to Taikodani Inari Shrine, which is located 300 meters upward from the torii tunnel.

In 1773, Masanori Kamei, the seventh feudal lord received permission from Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto, which is the headquarters, and built this shrine with his wish for the castle defense and people’s peaceful life. Along with Takekoma Inari in the Tohoku Region, Kasama Inari in the Kanto Region, Fushimi Inari in the Kinki Region and Yutoku Inari in the Kyushu Region, the shrine is one of the five biggest.
