Tottori Prefecture, famous for its enchanting night sky, was ranked top in Japan for “star visibility” in a nationwide stargazing survey conducted by the Japanese Ministry of the Environment.

In Tottori’s Misasa Onsen, you can enjoy both the town’s famous healing hot springs and clear night sky.

At the beginning of the stargazing session, you will receive a pair of binoculars and a map of the night sky at reception. While listening to explanations of the night sky given by staff who are experts on constellations and celestial bodies, you will be able to gaze up and enjoy a sky filled with stars and a breathtaking view of the Milky Way.

Lie down on reclining chairs and stare at the night sky using the binoculars, or just simply chat while enjoying the view of the heavens. If you are lucky, you might even catch sight of a shooting star. In summer, the town puts on fireworks displays that are visible from the stargazing site.

When stars are not visible due to weather conditions or other factors, the session is held in the planetarium. *Please note, the planetarium is currently closed due to Covid 19 restrictions.
