The event dates back to 1697, when Nagaharu Seki, first Niimi fiefdom lord, ordered the guarding of the Shinto God procession. The intangible folk cultural event with 300-year history which is also known as daimyo (feudal load) procession, is held on the occasion of the autumnal festival of Funagawa Hachimangu Shrine.
The autumn festival is led by the procession.
