The temple sits on the top of Mt. Ichibata, located in the center of the Shimane Peninsula. From olden days, the Buddha of the temple has been revered due to the power to protect our eyes. It is the headquarters of Ichibata Yakushi Association which has 150 branches nationwide.
The temple ground has a main hall where 84,000 statues of Buddha are dedicated and Yakushi Ruriko Nyorai is a principal one. 180 lanterns line the approach.
Ichibata Yakushi literally means the Buddha of Yakushi (medical doctor) of Ichibata. The Buddha is so closely related to the local people that they mention the temple by the Buddha’s name.
